Eel Shock — last updated 2026-08-30

The short version: Eel Shock has no ads, no accounts, and no tracking. The game plays fully offline. The only feature that talks to a server at all is the optional leaderboard, and it only does anything once you explicitly choose to turn it on.

What we don't collect

The leaderboard: opt-in, and reversible

Eel Shock has one optional online feature: a leaderboard. Nothing is ever sent to a server until you press Join on that screen. Until then, the game keeps your best score and level entirely on your own device.

When you do join, here's exactly what happens:

Delete your data

If you've joined the leaderboard, you can delete everything stored about you at any time:

  1. Open Eel Shock and go to the leaderboard screen.
  2. Tap Leave.

That immediately and permanently deletes your leaderboard row (score, level, duration, skin, timestamps) and clears the id stored on your device — there's no waiting period, and no account to log into first. If you play again afterwards, you start as a brand-new anonymous player.

Don't have access to the app anymore, or can't find the Leave button? Get in touch at info@eelshock.com and we'll help. Note the honest limit described below: since there are no accounts, we can only delete a specific row if you can tell us which one is yours (e.g. your leaderboard name or roughly when you played) — there's no login to verify identity against.

Playing offline

If you never press Join, or if you're offline, or if the leaderboard server can't be reached, Eel Shock plays exactly the same — nothing about core gameplay depends on the network.

Honest limits of this system

Because there are no accounts, we have no way to distinguish "a returning player" from "a new player who cleared their browser storage" — that's the trade-off for not asking you to sign up for anything. Likewise, leaving the leaderboard is a capability tied to whoever's device holds that random id, not a password-protected account action. We think that's the right trade for a small, ad-free game aimed at kids and families, but we'd rather say so plainly than overstate what the system guarantees.

Children's privacy

Eel Shock is designed to be safe for players of all ages, in part because of everything above: there's no way to submit free text, no way to contact or be contacted by another player, and no personal information is ever requested or required to play.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Since the game itself has no accounts, there's no mechanism to email you about changes — checking back here is the way to stay current.
